About Us
China Independent Documentary Film Archives
Our mission:
-Create a platform for screening and discussing Chinese independent documentary films
-Collect, catalog and research independent Chinese documentaries
-Distribute and promote these films worldwide in order to convey the many realities they express
Our structure:
China Independent Documentary Film Archive (CIDFA)
Funds and supports new works in independent Chinese documentary film. We collect, catalog
and distribute these films to an international audience. Our films also serve as study and research
material for Chinese Studies courses at universities in China and overseas.
China Folk Memory Image Archives (CFMIA)
An ongoing, long term archive powered by the community. It collects, organizes and preserves
images from China's folk history. It's goal is to create a collection that can be used for research
and study purposes, while at the same time engaging the community to document and preserve
it is own history and memories.
Our base:
CIDFA is based at Caochangdi Workstation, the studio of independent Chinese documentary filmmaker
Wu Wenguang. The space is dedicated to making and discussing Chinese documentary film. We have
a film screening room, a reading room, and a film archive. We regularly offer documentary workshops and
two annual film festivals that provide filmmakers with the chance to present and discuss their new films.
