Happy Life During SARS
Ai Dan | 2003 | 25 min. | English subtitles
Synopsis:
Everyone remembers when SARS, an epidemic disease, broke out in China in May and June of 2003. Beijing was one of the most seriously infectious areas. For the first time Beijingers were not welcome other places. Even worse, if they knew you lived in Beijing the local sanitary department would detain you.
When most people were too frightened to meet up with friends, a small group of people continued to go to bars and out to restaurants. The group included Ai Weiwei and other artists and writers. Like a small demonstration, they seemed to say that they’d prefer that SARS take their life than their passion and zest for life. One says, “This plague is a test for love of life!” It is edited in a free-flowing way with music and without narration.
