Chinese Independent Documentary :
CIDFA010:
Barbie Doll
Directors: Tian Gebing
Length: 100min
Production Year: 2005
Synopsis:
Shooting began summer of 2003, first editing commenced April of 2005.
Most of the subjects in the film were born in the 1980s.
The main shooting location was a three-bedroom apartment in Beijing.
A group of men and women rented this apartment together, and enjoyed each other’s company.
They are from outside of Beijing, came here with big dreams looking for opportunities.
The camera entered the private lives of these people.
And the style of this generation’s private lives is cocksure, dangerous, exhibitionist, and self-absorbed.
Two genders live together and left each other.
Title of the film is named after the boy’s club name.
This film uses and expounds on the concept of “variation”.
Variation on the role, identity, sex, language, expression, real people, dolls, cartoon, games and reality mixed altogether.
The epitome of this city is variation.
This film also the beginning of my own imagined “film theater”.
